WeWriWa 5/12/13

There are lots of terrific writers here at WeWriWa ~ come see for yourself!!!

I was debating on which story to select a snippet from for this week and I decided on another from The Sandman novella.

I was still a mess six months after the accident but I was at least trying to write again. Running was still out the question, Christ, walking was barely in the sentence, but I was at least able to get myself around enough to be left alone during the day without a nurse or an aide.

I’ll let you in on a little secret about writers, we like to be alone. No, not all the time and no not on a permanent basis, but we do need the time and privacy to wander around in our own heads. It’s like panning for gold in there and you can only do that when you are alone. I hadn’t been alone in months and I was starting to feel like a rat with its leg caught in a trap and for a few weeks, gnawing it off seemed like a viable option.

  1. I like the humor in this. You've done an excellent job of expressing how desperate the heroine is for some time to herself.

  2. Powerful, with a touch of humor but you can tell the character REALLY means what she's saying. Excellent excerpt!

  4. The comparison with the rat is so awesome. It makes it sad and funny at the same time.
